“The Heart of the Park” experience:
Tour Joshua Tree National Park
The core of the experience is a drive through the most iconic scenery of Joshua Tree National Park entering through the West Gate entry 5 miles south of the small town of Joshua Tree.
That entry highlights the best of the plateau full of Joshua Trees, spectacular geology…and changing terrain…and the stunning scenery, “otherworldly” Joshua Tree spread and unique geology of boulders starts immediately, not 40 minutes into the drive from Joshua Tree as it does with the other entries.
Enjoy stops at the “tallest Joshua Tree” (nicknamed “Barber pole”) in the Park, an opportunity to hike the Barker Dam trail, a slow drive by viewing of Scull Rock…or a few minutes stop there before continuing to see The Cholla Cactus Garden a short stop, worth seeing…then a chance for the easy (again DIY) hike to Heart Rock with a side trail to see the Arch Rock. Round trip…30-60 minutes…then the drive back to Joshua Tree, with the reverse view being just as impressive…and different…
All throughout the Joshua Tree National Park (JTNP) there are clean concrete vault bathrooms, well stocked with toilet paper…but not running water (I have a convenient supply of sanitary hand wipes for all)
The hikes can be switched out, there are another 4 popular hikes of about the same duration…each different from each other.
For the slightly more ambitious, Ryan Mountain trail brings you to the highest easy public access point in the Park for an impressive 360° view of the vastness of JTNP

That combination gives visitors nearly every landscape Joshua Tree is famous for: giant boulders, Joshua trees, rock formations, cactus gardens, desert history, and sweeping views.
The van can accommodate 14 passengers for the “Heart of the Park” experience. If there is a seat empty inside, The Desert Shuttle can provide a cooler with ice for you to keep the beverages of your choice or snack snacks. If the van is to capacity, we can have a cooler or two on an exterior luggage rack.
Suggest to your group that you have a playlist you would like to listen to as you go through the amazing scenery of Joshua Tree National Park.
Scheduled 5 hours from Yucca Valley or Joshua Tree.
First suggested stops if desired is the RoadRunner grabbing go snack spot that is attached as a private Enterprise to the Joshua Tree National Park welcome center (4 1/2 miles from the entrance of the park)
The Desert Shuttle summer rate for this excursion is $750, from Palm Springs or the Coachella Valley, $1000, and will offer an optional 1 to 2 hour stop for a meal at the iconic Pappy & Harriet’s barbecue restaurant in Pioneer town on the way back to Palm Springs at no extra cost.
Pappy and Harriet’s as well as the town of Pioneer town was originally constructed as a movie set for early western movies, the food is consistently fabulous, if you have time in your itinerary, you will enjoy this.
For the groups being picked up early and brought back to Palm Springs from this tour, if you wish to have a few hours for your group to rest, shower, and ready for the evening, there would be no charge for the interruption of The Desert Shuttle transportation, starting again at the agreed on rate to be picked up at your accommodations, brought to the restaurant of your choice (Spencer’s is always a hit) and brought back to your accommodations.
The evening add-on can be decided when the group is dropped off after the National Park tour.
The same offer of me going “off the clock” between this day tour and evening dinner/activities at the agreed on hourly rate also is offered without the “split fee”, allowing for several hours for the group to rest, clean and be ready to PARTY…even if into the wee hours of the next morning.
(Ask me for suggestions)…and this add-on can be decided literally last minute as I drop the group off.
